It’s been four years now, living with ALS. Not the best of times, but trying to make every second count. There’s so much thinking, and wondering how will this disease progress? I am very optimistic, and focused on recovery and getting back to what I have lost. The mind and spirit can overcome many things, allowing yourself to feel defeated would be devastating and then harder to overcome. We must stay positive and determined, self-talk is key, meditation in finding your inter strength to repair your body and to rebuild which has been lost. It sounds easy, but requires dedication and focus. There are so many things, one piece at a time. The first thing on my list, create a support group, and educate those living with ALS. There is so much I’ve learned over these pass years. Becoming a Team Advisor for PatientsLikeMe, what an honor. Meeting so many…

Meeting so many people living with this illness, has been tough but, heart warming at the same time. Other parts of my journey, acupuncture treatments, eastern medicine, what a blessing. There are many ways, to deal with ALS, but we must keep an opened mind. Willing to try different methods of treatments, herbs, and supplements, and deep tissue massages, and lots of body stretching.

Our diet, one of the most important issues, maintaining our weight and not our fat, will help with our energy levels, and fatigue. At the beginning, the Doctors would always say keep your body weight up. But, for me I needed to lose weight. So before, we start this new journey, eating healthy goes along way. More fruits, and vegetables, lots of water. Cut back on the breads, sweets, and sodas. We must maintain a great balance and always watching our weight and food intake, remember our bodies, and muscles are being effected. So every calorie counts, shakes, have been helpful throughout, I would highly recommend Raw Organic Meal, tasting organic meal- on- the- go packed with incredible nutrition to help you satisfy hunger, manage weight and feels great!

Exercising has it’s pros and cons, because of our muscles and sometimes limited movement, we may not be able to perform certain tasks. My recommendation would be, continue to use the muscles still available to us. Range of movement of any kind would be huge, moving your arms or legs, up and down, set of five or ten, whatever you are comfortable with. The goal, keep those muscle memories active, and working blood flow at the same time. I know it can be frustrating but don’t let it stop you. If you are feeling fatigue or dizzy, please stop and catch your breath. Remember we our not trying to build muscle, but keep our body moving. It may seem hard at the beginning, but everything is hard when we start. Keep those limbs, moving.

What an amazing life, we all have so many choices.  Our gift of life and every breath we take should not be taken for granted.  Each one of us can effect so many with our actions and attitudes, we may not realize it at that moment.  Our attitude matters, no excuses, if we are interacting with others and are seeking their approve or direction towards a given task, don’t be surprised when they push back.  Just a simple facial expression changes everything.  Remember salivary ended many years ago, working together and with great compassion and leading with the right attitude, and vigor brings it all together.  Whatever the obstacles overcome it with passion and conviction, there’s nothing I can’t do or accomplish.  With everyday we are alive, we must take every advantage and moment to appreciate our time here.  Nothing is simple or easy, every step we take finds us…

Nothing is simple or easy, every step we take finds us closers or further from our goals.  We must never become discourage or angry with the out come but, develop a new strategy creates a new vision or path.

Here’s a metaphor, if it were easy everyone would do it.  To become successful takes time and perseverance despite any difficulty.  We must breath it, in merge yourself each and every moment when possible.  To create a foundation which can’t be broken or cracked.  To master your craft takes every bit of effort and energy and then some.  I call it perfect practice, makes perfect.  We have the ability to succeed or persevere when our minds are put to task.  I understand we all need to find our niche, but sometimes I wonder why we become so discourage when things don’t work out in our favor.  It’s always amazed me, you don’t put the effort and then you complain it’s difficult.  You clearly have the ability to succeed and flourish but, there’s no effort.  The main ingredient missing is you, commit and go all in and rejoice in your success.  You totally understand what is expected from you it’s not rock science.

To succeed, accomplish, flourish, thrive, and triumph bring out the best results and puts us in the drives seat.  Just remember, if it were easy everyone would do it.  Words to live by, so don’t get left out make sure you have a seat on the bus of success.  There’s always room for those who want to achieve wonderful things.  Your success will affect others in a positive way 100 percent.  When you climb up the ladder of success so will others and they too will follow.  Take as many with you, don’t leave anyone behind.

Tip of the day,

The biggest “Win” happens everyday, when our phone rings and our personal phone buzzes, these are 100 percent oppertunities to exceed our customers perception.  Our professionalism matters, responding within a reasonable time makes all the difference.  How many discuss what’s the best time to call or check status?  This simple conversation will save you so much time and eliminates frustration.  Our busiest times are from __ to __, you fill in the blanks.  Having this simple conversation with your customers demonstrates how important you value their time.  I am simply amazed how much more is completed when you are afforded time.  Organization is key, and paramount when you exceed your customers expectation’s.  This simple modification in your process will enable you to be in control, and maximize your productivity.  I challenge those who are constantly  fighting with their receptionist everyday and why your customers are angry…

So create the processes required to enable you and your team much success and winning everyday.  “Happy today and happy tomorrow.”

What’s the most important piece of advise you can give to other couples in your situation?

The first word that comes to mind, patience and more patience.  There are no right or wrong ways of doing things, it’s just how both of you react and what action or plans have been discussed.  First comes the falling or not being able to use your hands or walking without use of a walker.  It’s all different for everyone, but the most important part of this process would be communicating and understanding each others feelings and how this illness will change everything.  It’s hard, and very challenging for my wife, coming and going I can only imagine the feeling or heart aches she endures.  To have compassion and empathy really helps, you don’t need to guess what’s she feels only to agree that it’s difficult.

The hardest part for me, not being able…
